Wear a better message

Our Passion

EMERALD BERLIN is on a mission. We want to make better fashion, for You, for the environment and for the future of society. Combining respect for nature with love for high-quality clothing and the support for NGOs around the world is what makes EMERALD BERLIN so special. But we aim not only for happy customers but also for lasting relationships. Join us and become part of the EMERALD-family!

Sustainability works

To EMERALD BERLIN the core value of sustainability is long term-thinking from crop to shelf. This includes eco-friendly production methods, reducing waste, protecting soil, water and the climate and focussing on a conscious use of resources. We believe sustainability will win, and it will change the retail landscape for good.

Going forward

EMERALD BERLIN takes sustainability to be the new normal but not an end in itself. Why? Because sustainability is not enough. We aim for innovation to become even better every day. Environmentally friendly packaging, on-demand production without excess use of resources, high durability of our fabrics, ecological ink without harmful chemicals and the reduction of plastic waste, we always want to be one step ahead.

Not only are our statement - collections made from organic, high-quality materials, but they are giving a voice to environmental and social projects of carefully selected, international NGOs. Creating awareness for social issues through statement-fashion, that’s what we call sustainability 2.0 because it goes way beyond fair fashion as we know it. Now it's about us making a difference in society, spreading awareness, educating people on important issues and creating a better future for all of us.

Fair and square

We make sure that all of our collections are made under fair labour conditions. This includes fair payment, safe and discrimination-free working conditions, no forced or child labour and legally binding contracts that prevent exploitation.

Quality first

We believe in thinking long-term. High-quality products made from organic and recycled materials not only help save resources and protect the environment but they also last longer, retain their vivid colours and always feel good on your skin.

Going raw

All of our collections are made from certified organic cotton. This makes our cloth durable, breathable, easy to wash and gives them a soft look and feel. By using high-quality organic materials, we make sure that our collections are sustainable and eco-friendly.

Wear vegan

Our whole chain of production will always be animal free – from crop to shelf. This means no animal testing and no use of animal products like leather or fur. We only use vegan materials to make sure that no animals are harmed for our products.

Stay clean

To protect soil and water from contamination and to safe-guard the health and well-being of our manufacturers and customers we dispense with the use of any toxic chemicals on our raw-materials or finished products. Even the ink for our prints is made from purely organic resources.

EMERALD BERLIN is in the feel-good-fashion business. We want everyone who helps us grow – from manufacturers to You – to know that what we do is all about making fashion a positive force on all levels. That’s why our clothes are not only sustainable, fair and eco-friendly but also affordable. That’s how sustainability works for us. Respect for nature and for the health and well-being of our customers always come first. Our experience has shown to us that sustainability affects business in so many positive ways. We believe fashion can make a difference – if we do it right.

Our certifications are our priority

Our commitment to sustainability has been at the core of our business for many years, and we are constantly evolving and improving our approach

Fair Wear is an association fighting for fair labour conditions in the garment industry worldwide. The core of their ethics is made up from eight labour standards derived from ILO Conventions and the UN’s Declaration on Human Rights. These standards are protecting workers from unfair treatment or exploitation and include freedom of employment (no forced labour), a discrimination-free working environment, no child-labour, freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, fair payment, reasonable working-hours, safe and healthy working conditions as well as legally binding employment contracts.

The Organic Content Standard (OCS) applies to any non-food product containing 95-100 percent organic material. It verifies the presence and amount of organic material in a final product and tracks the flow of the raw material from its source to the final product. OCS allows for transparent, consistent and comprehensive independent evaluation and verification of organic material content claims on products.

The PETA-certified label ensures that no animals were harmed at any stage of manufacturing, production or distribution of certified goods and products and that the certified company does not take part in or condone animal testing at any rate. For fashion and apparel this means that products are made exclusively from vegan materials.

The “OEKO-TEX Standard 100”-label certifies that no toxic or harmful chemical substances are used during the production of fashion-items or apparel labelled with the “Confidence in textile” label. All raw-materials and finished textile products are independently tested to ensure compliance with the precautionary principle, which prohibits certain potentially harmful substances even where they are not (yet) legally banned, the absence of chemical substances that are harmful to health and the environment as well as a restriction on the lead content of dyes.

The label “Global Recycled Standard” is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions. The label certifies that the materials used are recycled: in the case of polyester, from plastic bottles, and for cotton, from cutting waste. GRS also guarantees compliance with social and environmental criteria such as use of chemicals, treatment of waste water, the absence of certain toxic additives and respect for working conditions in our partner factories.
