The facility offers overnight accommodation for up to 100 homeless people during the winter months. People receive a free breakfast and dinner with their overnight stay. For many of them, these are the only two meals they eat all day. In the past few months, the guests have been able to already call in the facility in the afternoon and thus protect themselves from the cold and diseases such as COVID-19. In January, the state funds were canceled, which had previously co-financed the project by 50%. The other half is financed by the "Johanniter", a Protestant organization, which operates the emergency accommodation. All employees (except for the head of the facility), who work in the emergency shelter, work on a voluntary basis. Most of the money is spent on the the necessary security, which is unavoidable for security reasons.
To ensure that the accommodation will still be open in the afternoons over the winter, 40,000 € are required. In addition to that, there is a need of warm jackets, sleeping bags and food such as coffee, oil and sugar for its guests.
