In the surrounding area of Cape Town (South Africa), approximately 2.5 - 3.5 million people live in townships (poverty-stricken areas). Almost half of the adult population is unemployed and does not receive any support from the government. Nevertheless, they have to pay for the basic needs of their families. The seemingly hopeless situation often leads them to drug abuse and crime. To offer the people in townships the chance for a better life, Young Bafana Soccer Academy was founded in 2010. Implementing a holistic soccer and education program, the organization is dedicated to disadvantaged children and young people from socially deprived backgrounds and is already exerting a positive influence on over 10,000 people in the local area.
